Vigil
A sub-3-star review? Never.
You know, I saw some pretty meh GoodReads reviews of this book, and maybe I’m too easy on my favorite authors because I just don’t agree with a 3-or-below rating for this (or any other George Saunders work).
He has this insanely acute ability to describe the easy minutia of life in a way that makes you love, treasure, and miss everything and everyone all at once. He is one of the greatest living American writers—you can fight me on this.
He was maybe a little too easy on the villain in this book, and because the villain creates an existential threat to the world, that’s kinda lame. But a sub-3-star review? Never.
