About Lids Reads
Call me Lids. I read about 100 books a year and I have opinions about all of them, so here they are.
Part of my reading challenge this year is reading everything from the library: physical, ebook, or audiobook. I have several library cards and I use them all very frequently!
What I love: weird, dark, smart books about women who don’t quite fit where they’re planted. Translated fiction. A sad little uplift. Horror that actually means something. A main character who is kind of awful. History and crime.
Favorite authors: Mona Awad, Ann Patchett, Donna Tartt, Tana French, Claire Keegan, Maggie O’Farrell, Ling Ma, Paul Tremblay.
What I hate: a misleading comp, darkness with no point, and adults just plain communicating poorly.
I have an entire English Literature degree and somehow never read A Room of One’s Own until this year, so take all of this with a grain of salt.
How I rate
| Stars | Meaning |
|---|---|
| ★★★★★ | Nearly perfect. I’ll be thinking about it for a long time. |
| ★★★★ | Really good. I’m telling people to read it. |
| ★★★ | Fine, maybe even good. Something didn’t land. |
| ★★ | Not my jam. |
| ★ | Terrible. I’d recommend it to no one, in good conscience. |
