Her B- is everyone else's A.
I’ve been a devoted Tana French fan for almost 20 years, so I have thawts on this one. Sorry! 👩🏻💻
Okay. First of all. Elephant in the room. We all keep waiting for Tana French to be as good as she was in the Broken Harbor/Faithful Place days and it hasn’t happened with this Cal Hooper series, so I feel like I gotta get that out there first.
That being said, her B- is everyone else’s A. So I will keep reading her.
This book baffled me. The pacing was so off. The plot doesn’t start plotting until the 70% mark, and Cal, Lena, and Trey barely speak. Lots of repetition.
It took me like 4 weeks to get through the first 3/4 of the book.
Then a thing happens and the writing becomes sharp and perfect again and I finished the last 25% in a single day.
So, in summary: uneven, weird pacing, so-so plot, but an excellent Tana French ending.
I will always miss the Dublin series and I kind of hope she’s done with Cal and Ardnakelty.
I’m ready for something new from Tana French.
