I both loved and hated this book.
I both loved and hated this book. I loved that the main character is awful — that’s so much more fun than reading about a good person. But I didn’t like anyone even a little: the protagonist, the frenemy, the therapist, the guy she’s seeing — all awful. My snarky read: if the main character had actual boundaries, the whole book would be irrelevant. I enforce mine fiercely, so the passivity was genuinely infuriating. And then the last page arrived — totally unexpected, sad — and I realized I’d read the whole book as if any of it mattered, only to land somewhere that said: absolutely nothing matters, life is fleeting, we are all selfish, and the reckoning may arrive at our doorstep no matter how hard we work on ourselves.
Vibes
- an awful main character
- narcissists
- dark but humorous
- self-reflective spiral
- absolutely nothing matters
Favorite moment
The last page. Read the whole book to get there.
